Down Among The Buggers
Don't you think there is such a delicious irony in the fact that the Attorney-General and the Met Commissioner were discussing phone-tapping when the latter tape-recorded the former? The Attorney was reportedly 'incredibly cross' when he found out about it. Well he would be - it's not very nice when somebody tapes a conversation without your knowledge, but at least the Attorney had the very significant advantage that he knew the Commissioner was listening in - this is a privilege which the Attorney and the Commissioner seem quite sanguine about denying to other telephone users. The Attorney intends that the Commissioner listens to and records other people's conversations without telling them. But the toys went out the pram when a fraction of such gross intrusion visited him.
