Jimmy Johnstone

I was terribly sad to hear of wee Jinky's death this morning. It's only a few weeks ago that I reprinted on this blog my old TAG article about him. Clearly Jimmy did not play for a team I supported, but I always had affection for him as a great player and for what he contributed to Scottish life. He is a link right back to my primary school days - I remember being outraged when he replaced Willie Henderson in the Scotland team in about 1965 - but of course it was subsequently easy to see why. His performances for Celtic caused me a lot of grief over the years, but we were all privileged to see him in action. RIP, Jinky
