Today is the tenth anniversary of the death of Dr Timothy Leary, Harvard lecturer turned counterculture guru, evangelist of LSD, apostle of psychedelic mind liberation, friend of Beatles, associate of the hippie aristocracy, acid-tester extraordinaire, trouble-maker, radical pain in the establishment ass, all-round nut-case and exactly the kind of person admired and revered on this blog. In 1996, dying of cancer, he arranged for his actual death to be filmed, and issued instructions that his mortal remains were to be launched into space - which they duly were - along with the remains of other fruitbats like Gene Rodenberry (creator of Star Trek) aboard a Pegasus Rocket, which blasted off on 9 February 1997, and is now somewhere near Jupiter.
