At Inveraray
There was a boy from Inveraray at my school, who in his younger years had a very prominent lower jaw, so much so that his domicile was known to all and sundry as 'Chinveraray', later abbreviated to the simple 'Chinver'. To this day I inwardly call this place 'Chinveraray'. I've always liked Inveraray, though Ann does not. Robert Burns called at Inveraray during his Highland Tour. The Bard seems to have been less than wholly impressed:- The Bard At Inverary 1787 Whoe'er he be that sojourns here, I pity much his case, Unless he comes to wait upon The Lord their God, His Grace. There's naething here but Highland pride, And Highland scab and hunger: If Providence has sent me here, 'Twas surely in an anger.
