Cobblers

Loch Long from Ardgarten The Cobbler Arrochar In more innocent times the Royal Navy used to fire torpedoes the length of the Loch (it is a long loch as the name suggests) and KGB men would sit on the hillside taking notes. It was not advisable to be swimming or boating in the loch at such times. The Cobbler is the hill overlooking Arrochar. In more innocent times a group of us were allowed to leave the school for the weekend to 'climb the Cobbler'. In actual fact, we spent the time in a house in Arrochar drinking vodka - thereafter 'climbing the Cobbler' became a euphemism for getting pissed.
