The campaign for election of Mayor of New Orleans is currently underway. Since Hurricane Katrina the whole political landscape has changed along with people's priorities. As a result, there is no certainty that either of the major political parties will win the election. Indeed, it now seems likely that the winner, and new Mayor, will be Ernie K-Doe, who is better known as a a very flamboyant local R'n'B singer, styling himself as 'the Emperor of the Universe'. We're quite used to figures from the world of entertainment achieving high political office in the USA (Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger etc). The unusual feature here is that Ernie K-Doe died on 5 July 2001
